LO1: Location Recces

Storage site

Recce form

i went to 'Storebox's' site in Sheffield to look at their site to see it it would be suitable to shoot the scene where the dead body and the kidnap victim are found. I saw two types of storage containers one full sized and one half sized.

Large container
The large containers offers a lot of space and the large door opening allows space for cameras to move around and achieve a variety of camera angles.

Looking into the container from the outside it appears very dark towards that back. Additional lighting could be required in some cases.

Half size container

The half sized container was a good distance away from the full sized container, which is ideal for the way the narrative is intended to be acted out

These half size container seemed to have better light for filming than the larger container, however the black wall at the back of the container still detracts the amount of light that is available.

Additional photos
The track leading up to the containers is spacious but in some instances may be to narrow this should be considered when looking at camera angles

UTC Sheffield

Pros

  • Suitable for the filming we need to do
  • Easy to access and local
  • table and chairs are available to use as props.

Cons
  • Confined space for filming so we must be careful not to have cameras in the shots
  • Some signs may be detrimental to the believability of the story

Worksop ACF

Pros

  • Easy to access
  • good iconography for the scene
  • utilities i.e. additional power available
Cons
  • Posters may interfere with continuity
  • Clutter will need moving out in advanced

Bars on the windows makes it look more like a prison and ads to the mise en scene.
a good entry/exit point with good view points isolated.

LO1: treatment

Treatment

The Film’s working title: Escaped Secrets

The films Narrative: 5 years after being put behind bars by DCI Derick James for the murder of 6 people including James’ wife, Christopher Lucas calls him to the Broadmoor Prison saying he had some ‘Business’ to discuss, DCI James tentatively agrees in hope of finding out the whereabouts of his wife’s and the other victims remains, which he never disclosed. Instead of getting the answers he was looking for he is told that more people are going to die. Derrick doesn’t entertain what he though was mind games at the time and then terminates the meeting. After a few days pass and he is called into the inspectors office where he is told that Christopher Lucas’ cell was found empty this morning and that to be given the best chance of catching Lucas and as he has the most experience in the case Derick demands that he is the chief detective on the case along with his best friend DC Kieran Douglas they agree without hesitation. They begin by looking into any clues into where about Lucas would be heading by looking into his previous murders and any evidence that came from his prison cell but the search is inconclusive and the forensic report that came from the prison showed that Lucas had no personal belongings in his cell and the even stranger part was that the cell had no trace of DNA or finger prints that belong to Lucas in the cell and that all duty guards reported seeing Lucas sitting in his cell cross legged with his eyes closed and the only socialisation or communication he has had in the last 5 years was when DCI James visited just a few days ago. After some more deeper digging Douglas finds a storage container that belonged to Christopher’s mother, Jessica Lucas who he dedicated his crimes to and after a mental breakdown and her death 6 months ago all of her possessions fell to Lucas as he was imprisoned at the time the possessions were auctioned off but after payments stopped for the storage container and its contents fell to the storage company and its up for auction in 2 weeks. Derrick and Kieran go to look in this locker, given the circumstances the owner of the storage company were happy for them to take a look inside only to find something they couldn’t believe.

UNWIND

There was a war called 'The Heartland war' which was fought over abortion and they eventually came to a compromise where people aged 13-18 are able to be sent to a harvest camp to harvest their organs for others to use. This film follows one girls experience.

Editing

In the editing process they have added in the sound of power tools to add to the mise en scene.
