I have created meaning in my film through the use of mise en scene.
Costume
I asked my actors to turn up in smart business wear to give the impression the the audience that they are working n a professional policing environment. i also had my extras wear white over alls to look like they are forensic investigators working in the scene and build the iconography of the scene.
Sound
I have also looked into creating meaning thought the use of sound i.e. a police siren sound in the back ground of a scene to give connotations of the police operations or ambient noise of a helicopter over head would give the audience the impression of a man hunt.
Acting gesture
To make my main protagonist seem more powerful i made opportunities in the script where he had the ability to define his dominance over the other characters i.e. when questioned about his ability in the meeting he puts the other detective in their place and when they find the dead body and Kieron is sick it shows that Derrick is more a more seasoned detective.
Props
I includes props in my film i.e. the paper with the victims faces on it gives the audience an indication of the genre of the film and indicates that there is a back story to this narrative and quickly explains this to the audience by giving the victims a face and name.
Editing techniques
I planned to use an eye line match after the explosion so that the audience feels empathy with the characters and understand the severity of the explosion and how it has effected the narraitve. I have also included an LUT filter to make the film seem more dramatic to the audiecne and it alos fits the conventions of my genre.

LO4: A proposal for certification classification that is realistic and appropriate for the content of the original short film, or sequence of a film, produced based on feedback gained
Given the BBFC regulations on the classification of media rating i would give my film a rating certificate of 12.
Threat
In My film there is a small amount of threat in the opening scene at the prison where Christopher threatens Derrick with the prospect of more people dieing. i think this is worthy of an age 12 rating as the treat is not directly made towards any of the characters, and the argument between derrick and his boss is inaudible.
Violence
There is not harsh or candid examples of violence in my film which the audience would find distresing or to detailed. However the grenade scene and the use of an eye line match dose give indication of distress and violence towards the main characters.
Language
There is the occasional use of bad language in my film however i not used contently and there is very few major swear words and all the swear words are justified to the audience through the narrative.

LO4: Evidence of a focus group screening of your finished film.
- I had a focus group watch my film and then had them give me feed back using a survey monkey that i created so that it could gain qualitative feedback about my film.
- In my feedback i noticed that the strengths in my film were my editing and camera techniques in the film and improvement that i can see from my feed back would.
- I can see from my feedback i could do with altering the sound effects so that they aren't so overbearing and loud.
LO3: Linking audio to visuals and applying audio effects
The Radio recording
I recorded the radio broadcast that said that Christopher Lucas had escaped from prison. To make is sound more like the recording was coming out of a speaker/radio i edited the sound in Adobe Audition using the distortion effect, I also faded in and out the radio broadcast to make the sound enter the visuals more smoothly.
Hissing noise in dialogue
The recording of dialogue when Derrick is asking Kieran if he is ok. ( MVI_9948,MOV)
As the audio was recorded using a directional microphone mounted on the camera, as it picked up a hissing noise along with some back ground noise, in an effort to try and remove this i created a noise print of the hissing and used ' Adaptive noise reduction' i noticed that the more of an effort i made to remove the hissing noise the more distorted the vocals became, so instead of compromising my dialogue i removed as much of the hiss i could before it started effecting the vocals.
Ambient noise
In the office scene i have added in ambient office noise to create the illusion that their are multiple people working in the office and also establish to the audience the location that they are working in. I sourced my ambient office noise off a creative commons website meaning i avoided The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act.
Sting
In the transition after they discover the body, when the police tape is pulled across. I used a police siren sound effect which i got off of a copyright free website. The sting sound effect helps to build the mise en scene of the crime scene by using an iconic sound.
Bed
I have used a bed sound from a copyright free web site which allows me to avoid the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act. This bed starts just after they hear a banging noise in the distance, this is to build up suspense in the narrative and give the idea to the audience that something is about to happen.
Foley
To make it sound more realistic to the audience i have added in a Foley sound of a small metal object being dropped, i found this sound on a creative commons website, The sound was perfect for creating the illusion that a pin was being pulled out of a grenade, Making it seem more like it was a real grenade and not a plastic prop.

LO3: Applying appropriate visual effects and transitions
Double vision / blurred effects
In the scene just after the explosion, where it goes to an eye line match in Derricks point of view, i have edited the footage so it appears that Derrick is concussed and disorientated.
I did this by duplicating the footage and using the feather tool to cut the footage in half and adjust the position of the cut out to make the image look as if the image is repeating and there fore to create the impression that derrick has double vision.
I also added an adjustment layer over this particular piece of footage to control the blur in the footage, by using 'key frames' and adding a Gaussian blur i was able to manipulate the footage to make the blurriness fade in and out to make him appear concussed after the explosion.
Action match
I created an action match through the use of editing the three shots of the container being opened that were filmed at separate times, but by editing them together I was able to make it appear as all one motion and give my footage a better flow and rhythm and also builds up suspense towards the reveal of the body inside the container.
Title Graphics / Transition
To give my story a more of an ending i chose to use title graphics to tell the the audience what happened after the explosion. i wanted the the text to blur out and turn into the next piece of text i did this by adding an adjustment layer and entering effects controls and adding 'Gauzian blur' and altering the amount of blur throughout the time line using key frames and so that as it approaches a new piece of text it becomes more blurred and as it enters a new piece of text it will become less blurred. I also added a cross dissolve video transition so the text would so the text would dissolve away seamlessly rather than cutting away.
LO3: Producing and reviewing an off line edit
Offline edit
I created an off line edit using a short amount of footage from some of what i filmed first. To do this i pieced together the some of my footage in adobe premier to try and idetify any problems that i may be faced with and that I may need to overcome.
Problems identified and intended solutions
1)
Problem: Some footage is wonky/tilted due to the difficulty we faced setting up the tripod on the uneven and rocky ground.
Solution: I intend to fix this problem by enlarging and rotating the frames which are tilted
2)
Problem: The microphone on the slider shot has picked up some unwanted background noise
Solution: I intend on removing that during the post production proses and posibly adding some sound effects from copyright free sites.
3)
Problem: The tone/colour of the fotage dosent it the genre of the film
Solution: I would look into using an LUT or applying RGB colour corections to give my footag a more cinematic look

Edit decision list
I have loeeded rushes in a tabe to dertermine which piceses of footage is usable and which part of the usable footage I want to be using.
